Preventing bloat in K-9s

Just wanted to put in my two bets on the bloat question.

Some say do not feed the dog with elevated feeders. Other say do it. I do not know for sure what the answer is but there are three things that I have underlined below that you really need to take note of. Dog feed expands after it gets wet in the stomach and can cause problems when the k-9 has gulped down a large amount of food, then when it does get wet it swells causing the dog to possible bloat.

I suggest you feed a little different than the usual way. Feed two times a day using smaller amounts at a time. When you do feed scatter the feed out so the dog can not take large gulps at a time. Use a large flat galvanized pan

This willslow down his eating habit. Use a large pan, so the feed will scatter out and the k-9 can not take large bites at a time.

Then if you have more than one dog eating at the same time, separate them so they will not be eating fast so the other k-9 can not get his or her food.

Hope this helps
