When Jim Hornbeck first started training drug detection K-9's for Law Enforcement, there wasn't much information out there on how to train, so in addition to training drug and bomb dogs he also published and produced many books and videos designed to teach anyone how to train. And so Hornbecks.net was born. Hornbecks offers training videos for drug and bomb detection dogs, also arson detection and man tracking. He also offers videos and books to law enforcement for drug interdiction. In business now for 20+ years we not only have the knowledge of Jim available through his books and videos, we have training tips posted on the site from various top notch trainers across the country. Jim also established Drugbeat K-9 Certifications. This company was started about 10 years ago due to the huge amount of requests from private security companies utilizing K-9's, but not able to certify because all other certifying agencies were designed strictly for law enforcement. We have some of the strictest guidelines for detection, tracking and patrol certification. Drugbeat has certifying agents all over the world who perform hundreds of certifications every year for law enforcement and private security companies. Jim worked side by side with law enforcement for 20 or so years, doing drug interdiction and using the drug dogs on the street. Jim found out what the officers really needed in a working k-9. Jim produced dozens of K-9 training videos and has wrote 3 books on k-9 training. Jim has retired as a K-9 trainer and has sold Hornbecks Video Productions and Drugbeat He is still the moderator of 3 message boards for K-9 trainers and Law enforcement around the world. If you are a law officer be sure and join Drug Beat or if you are a k-9 trainer or handler be sure and join the k- training list. Jim learned the hard way that not many American k-9 breeders were breeding a social well adjusted working service dog, so he decided that some one should put together a breeding program of service dogs that any trainer would be proud to have and train, that also would make a great family pet.
After breeding Rottweilers for a few years, then switching over to Belgian Malinois and breeding them, he decided that there was a need to develop a social working dog that did not want to bite everyone he met as well as his handlers. He found that the Rottweile was a little on the lazy side and had problems taking the heat. Then with the Belgian Malinois he found that they were a great working dog but was not a social dog that could be depended on around children and strangers. To many law departments were getting bad bites and law suits against them because of the Belgian Malinois biting the wrong people. After much looking and asking questions, Jim then did much research on different breeds, then decided that the White German Shepherd was the dog that could be bread to be the type of K-9 that the American police officers needs as well as a k-9 that will make a great family pet. They are a level headed and thinking dog, that can be taught to be social or a strong aggressive patrol k-9. They are pretty much a natural man tracker. Just a little man track training and you have a good suitable track or search and rescue dog. Once, when they have been socialized with kids they love to play and will protect them. Sadly Jim Hornbeck passed away on July 12, 2009. He is missed greatly by his family along with his many friends and aquantainces. Cindy McCord, his daughter is continuing his work with dogs and continues to breed white german shepherds. She has relocated Missouri White Shepherds to Arkansas and merged Jim's kenel with hers - Arkansas Whie Shepherds. Altough she does not have all the knowledge and experience that Jim had ... she worked with Jim for many years and he taught her much! Call her and she will gladly talk to you about K-9s and training. 479-966-7654 or email
